What are some of the most famous unsolved mysteries?

What happened to Brandon Swanson?
On the late night of May 14, 2008, Brandon Swanson (19) a resident of Marshall, Minnesota, USA was returning home from a late night party. The time of his return was roughly around 12:00–12:30 AM. On the way, he accidentally drove into a ditch and his car got stuck.
Swanson called his parents, dad Brian and mom Annette after his friends (from the party he had attended) failed to respond to his calls. He told his dad that he was near Lynd, a small town 7 miles away from Marshall.
While Brandon was still on the call with his dad, his parents reached the area Brandon had described. His dad kept flashing headlights of his car but Brandon said he couldn’t see anything in sight. Brandon did the same with his car so his dad could notice, but failure. Brandon told his dad that he was going to walk back to his friend’s residence in Lynd and that he knew where he was heading.
At 2:10 am, Brandon was still on the call with his dad while walking, when suddenly, he swore “Oh, shit!” and the call ended abruptly. His dad kept calling him but Brandon never answered again. At 6:30 am, after a lot of search, his parents called the police.

More strangeness: Police found Brandon’s car not near Lynd, but around 20 miles away from where he thought he was.
• One of the possibilities was that he fell into the nearby Yellow Medicine River, which was flowing rapidly during the time.
• More than 500 volunteers were involved in the search, there were aerial views from helicopters and much more.
• Brandon’s family themselves involved after authorities stopped searching. Over 100 miles square area was searched.
• Many dog handlers were also involved. Brandon’s scent was tracked to Porter, Minnesota, which was 6 miles away from his last known location.

Authorities said in their statement that there was no evidence found of foul play or staging of the disappearance by Brandon himself. They believed that Brandon must have fallen into Yellow Medicine River, but it wasn’t official as there was no evidence of that as well.

Brandon Swanson has never been found. It is so strange that there was absolutely no evidence of anything except that scent, which proved nothing. What happened to Brandon is one of the strangest missing person cases I have ever read.

There are many, but let me tell about few of them-
The Hessdalen lights-
Sightings of this particular phenomenon go back as far as 1811 and occur in the Hessdalen Valley, which is in the middle of Norway. However, in the early 1980s, the lights became much more frequent, with a peak of nearly 20 separate reports each week. Since then, the sightings have decreased in frequency, with observations numbering 10–20 per year. Normally, the lights are either bright white or yellow and hover above the ground.
Various scientific studies have been commissioned to find out the source behind the lights, but no conclusive explanation has been found. (There are cameras stationed around the valley, set up to take pictures of any bright light.) Studies meant to refute some of the findings have pointed out a variety of logical explanations, including car headlights and mirages, though they admit that such things don’t necessarily explain every occurrence.
The hornet spook light-
With sightings dating back as far as 1866, the Hornet Spook Light, also known by a number of different names, has made its home in a place known as the “Devil’s Promenade” in Northeast Oklahoma. Normally said to be an orange ball of light which bobs along a 6.4-kilometer (4 mi) stretch of gravel road, legend says that it was first seen by Native Americans who walked the Trail of Tears.
Nobody has ever suffered adverse effects from the light; it simply appears in the sky, wanders aimlessly, bobbing and weaving at great speed, and then it’s gone. The most popular explanation is that the Hornet Spook Light is a will-o’-the-wisp, the name for the light given off when wood and other organic compounds decay (although, the light given by that phenomenon isn’t normally as bright). Another leading reason is rather simple: Scientists say that it may simply be the refracted headlights of nearby drivers. However, this doesn’t explain the sightings before the invention of the automobile.
The Wow! Signal-
Detected by Jerry R. Ehman on August 15, 1977 during a SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) project, the Wow! signal (named for the note written next to it) was a super strong radio signal that came from deep space and has never been detected again. It lasted for 72 seconds -- the maximum length of time the Big Ear telescope could observe any given point. The length of the signal, along with the intensity pattern of the signal, may point to an extraterrestrial origin.
While some attempt to provide other explanations for the signal, not many other scenarios are likely. If the signal did come from extraterrestrial beings, scientists say it is likely a very advanced civilization with a transmitter more powerful than any we have on Earth.
The Voynich Manuscript-
The Voynich manuscript is a handwritten and illustrated volume in an entirely unknown language. It has been dated back to the early 15th century and is named after Wilfrid Voynich, who bought it in 1912. It has been studied by countless cryptographers, but not one has been able to crack the code. The illustrations have been used to divide the book into six sections: herbal, astronomical, biological, cosmological, pharmaceutical, and recipes. These lead us to believe that it is a medical volume, but still it remains a mystery.
The plant illustrations have experts baffled -- many of the drawn plants don't resemble any known species. They seem to be composite: the roots of one species will be attached to the leaves of another and the flowers from a third type of plant. Some have offered the theory that it is a hoax, but most believe it's too complex and sophisticated to be a fake.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370-
One of the most recent unsolved mysteries is that of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which vanished on Saturday, March 8, 2014. An international flight from Malaysia to Beijing, it carried 227 passengers and 12 crew members. The aircraft made its last voice contact with air traffic control less than an hour after takeoff and disappeared from radar screens minutes later. Malaysian military radar tracked the plane for almost an hour after that, watching as it deviated from its flight path until it left the radar's range while over the Andaman Sea.
No distress signal, bad weather warnings, or technical problems were relayed before the plane disappeared. It was concluded that the flight ended in the Indian Ocean, and though a search is still under way, there has been no debris recovered. Theories range from hijacking to black holes to alien abduction, but perhaps the strangest is the theory that Pitbull and Shakira display prior knowledge of the flight's disappearance in their song, "Get It Started."
